This past weekend, flowers began blooming all over my garden. Our long, rainy and cool spring set us back about a month in growth time, but my one year old garden is very lush and green thanks to all the rain. Here are some of my favourite plants.

As you can see, most of my favourites are old-fashioned varieties. They remind me of the gardens I spent time in as a child. In fact, some of these plants are clippings from plants in my Mom's garden. I live on the opposite side of the country from my mom and she mailed the cuttings to me wrapped in wet paper towels and put in ziploc bags! They came through beautifully.
These old fashioned varieties are easy to find, usually inexpensive and fragrant. They can take a beating too! Pick up a few for your garden and relive those childhood memories of Grandma's garden.

I love all your gorgeous flowers everywhere! I am still learning the art of growing flowers. Give me a tomato or a pepper any day, but flowers? Sigh... I'd love to have some!
ReplyDeleteThe insect that got a hold of that pansy must be a starving artist! (snicker snort) Sorry! I didn't sleep well last night so that was a really bad joke! I think it's funny how the eaten areas look symmetrical though.

Great mix of textures, type, and color to your plants. And that pansy 'damage' is pretty cool looking.
ReplyDeleteThe yarrow is just gorgeous in that picture, as is the rich color of the Siberian iris--love them all! I grew up in the San Juan Islands, and wish I could get back up to BC sometime! Went to school there for one summer, and just loved it!

ReplyDeleteVery lovely. I have alot of the same flowers. My Spring flowers; bleeding heart, peonies, etc. are through blooming. We had an unusually wet Spring also. Everything bloomed late, but it sure made them big. Enjoy those beautiful blooms.
