I'm a sucker for anything with Easy Peasy in the title (even though Karianne used the word "cinch" instead of "easy peasy"!) so when I saw this "Mission: Possible" blog party shaping up for March 27th, I just knew I had to do a project that I've had on the back-burner since last fall.
I had the jar, I had the lid, I had a soap pump because I just finished using up a Christmas gift plastic soap dispenser - put it all together and EASY PEASY CUTE SOAP DISPENSER! Forgive me for shouting...
The only part that I struggled with a bit was making the hole in the lid big enough to fit the pump that I was going to use. I drilled a hole in the center of the lid and then used needle nose pliers to bend back the opening little by little until I had just the right fit. Once I got everything assembled, I realized that the lid would look better if it was the same colour as the pump - so out came the black spray paint. I love this project! Total time spent: 10 minutes (not including waiting 1/2 an hour for the spray paint to dry). You can also use a glue gun or silicone caulk to keep the pump securely in place. That might prevent some rusting as well.
I had two jars to choose from - a clear jar and a jar that I had painted last fall by dipping the jar in a can of paint (that was a very messy job that I don't recommend anyone else try!!!). I like them both, but opted for the clear version so I know exactly when I'm running out of soap. A little extra touch was a twine bow and it's good to go!!
UPDATE: My soap jar has been used multiple times daily over the last 14 months and the lid now needs to be replaced due to rust. My suggestion is to make several lids at the same time so you can swap them out when the rust gets bad. Easy peasy!
I created my own mason jar soap dispenser! Tah daaaaah!!!

Great project! I should make some of these for our bathrooms! LOVE the twine bow~~
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Looks great.I need to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteCute idea. I love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteI love both of the jars, the painted lid really makes a difference, I think, in how professional it looks. I made one last fall and I did not paint the lid and I'm not crazy about it. So, now that I've seen yours, I know what to do.
Thanks.
Hugs, Cindy
I so want to give this a try. I just picked up a large mason jar -- just need to find a pump!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a FAB job! Well done, Anne. :) Hugs
ReplyDeleteThis is very smart and creative idea! I want to make my own!

ReplyDeleteTurned out great! Did I miss it, or how did you secure the pump part?
ReplyDeleteHey that's cute, and DUH now I know where to get the pump to make one for myself.... my almost empty soap.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
These are so cute aren't they.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!

Really cute ! I think I'll try it !
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! Why did this never occur to me?! Love creative ideas like this!
ReplyDeleteMy Kitchen definitely needs one of these so I don't know why I have been putting it off for so long. You make it sound very easy. Did you have to use anything to actually attach the soap pump or is the hole just a snug enough fit that it stays put?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Claire @ alittlesomethinginthemeantime.blogspot.com
Easy Peasy works for me! Your mason jar looks so nice and I was thrilled to learn it only took minutes. I'll definitely give it a try!

Turned out great and you couldn't have found cuter jars to use! Those are awesome! I did this and mine ended up rusting at the top, so the other day, I just put a new lid on....no problem. I thought, ya, if I had to do that every 6 mo, no big deal.:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking it up!

maybe try 'rustoleom' spray paint?

Like several others, I am wondering how you attached the pump to the lid. I see that you drilled a hole in the lid and made it big enough for the pump, but did you need to glue the pump in place to secure it? Or what? It is so clever and I would like to make some! PlEASE REPLY.
ReplyDeleteThe hole was just the right size for the pump, so it was a snug fit. You can also secure the pump in place with either a glue gun or silicone caulking.
DeleteHave fun!
Anne, sooo cute! you are very creative!
ReplyDeleteLinda at The French Hens Nest
Did you use a sealer on the jar & lid that you painted???
ReplyDeleteNo, the paint I used on the jar was a high gloss latex. It has held up really well and I wipe it down all the time. The lid is painted with Painters Touch spray paint and it is meant to be used on metal. The jar still looks as good today as when I first painted it.
