Have I mentioned I have no basement? No storage room to speak of and LOTS.OF.TOOLS :) I'm a tool junky and I'm always working with them so I need to store them someplace where I have easy access to them. Enter the shipping crate I found at a garage sale a while back.
When I first got it, I whitewashed it and used it to store shoes in at my back door.
Then, during the summer I added castors to make it easier to move around and used it as a bench (and my cat's favourite perch).
Now I'm going to use it for my tools. But first, a makeover! I painted it in light blue, white and yellow - just a rough paint job because I planned to sand it down again.
and then I sanded like crazy to get down to the original wood.
Now I have a fabulous place to store my tools. It looks so much better than a big 'ol plastic toolbox with tools spilling out of it. I can keep it right at the back door where it's easy to get at and the wheels help a lot in dragging it around behind me. Oh, and yes, I did notice that it looks like a kid's toybox. Yep, a BIG kid's toybox and the toys are POWER TOOLS - grunt, grunt, grunt!!

What a great idea! I have no garage, no basement and almost zero storage! What I do have is an old ammunition crate and now I know just what to do with it! Thank you for this wonderful idea!....and you have some great boots girl!

Totally awesome Anne! What a great idea to store your tools. Mine are all over the place and right now are in an Ikea shopping bag LOL Hmm, I wonder where I can get a crate and where I would put it.

ReplyDeleteoooo I like this idea. I'm slowly increasing my tool collection and the little baskets I keep on top of the laundry cupboards are over flowing. Now to get my hands on a unique crate. In a similar way, I keep my sewing machine and other sewing bits and pieces in a chest in my living room, it doubles as a side table.

Great idea Anne. I can never seem to find tools when I need them. I have them out in the garage and they are all over the place. Would be nice to have them "hidden" in the house.

We also have a home with no basement. But fortunately we have an enclosed porch that has a door in the middle separately it into two spaces. One side you enter into the house, the other side is for storage and that's where we store the tools.
ReplyDeleteThe crate was a great find, and useful too. Love the idea of personalizing it with the chalkboard and adding casters for moving it around.
Oh Anne ... I love that old crate. Prettiest tool box I have ever seen. Good way to organize your tools and have a pretty piece to look at. Maybe I should do that to hide my tools from everyone that never puts them back where they belong. Thanks for sharing your idea and paint job.
