Painting and a Quote

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
- Henry David Thoreau

I found this quote today and it reminded me of a painting that I have been struggling with for some time.  I've actually painted over the canvas three times trying to get it right!  Today, I am much happier with the painting and I have chosen to appreciate it for its simplicity and brightness rather than continuing in my attempts to make it into something that it is not.

20x24 Acrylic on wrapped canvas
And since that painting was my tribute to Autumn and now it's almost Spring, I decided to paint a flower painting as well.

9x12 Acrylic on watercolour paper
Have a happy week!

"Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls."

Wonderful quotes! The painting reminds me of the Impressionists and their free style and softness, I like it; and the spring flowers are lovely. I don't have success like this with acrylics...clever!

It looks beautiful to me, Anne. And I've always loved that Thoreau quote.

Two charming paintings! Lovely colours in both - the yellow against the dreary skies in the first really makes it pop and gives lovely contrast.

P.S. I relinked you to PPF as your link was broken (but I couldn't reply just to you as you are in the "no-reply blogger" category like most people. Oh - and your word verification/captcha is on - from your PPF comment, you might not realize that.)

Great quotes too!

I saw my first daffodil in bloom today! It marks the start of Spring for me - plus yesterday the weather was positively balmy!

I like both your pictures.

Wonderful quotes! And great paintings! I really like your thoughts about letting the painting be what it is instead of what you want it to be. I like the idea of our art having a life of its own. It will be what it will be and there's only so much we can do about that!

Happy PPF!

Hi Anne, great quotes! I love them both! And your paintings are sweet! I've learned to appreciate my paintings whatever they come out as! Take a tip from God who did not destroy His weird creations, like the aye-aye, blobfish, or the hagfish. He appreciated them for what they are and let them exist! Patsy from

hi Anne,
i love both the quotes you have shared, profoundly wonderful, thank you.
i also love the light in your painting, it stirs it all to life in a wonderful way.

isn't it great that if we are not delighted with our art we can paint over it and go again!

Lovely golden, luminous autumn tree with beautifully contrasting sky! Pretty daffodils and great quotes! Sometimes others see our paintings differently than ourselves!

beautiful colors. i love the daffodils-- i'm so ready for spring!
i also really like the quote you associated with the autumn piece and the revelation it helped you with. i struggle with doing and redoing and redoing until i make things worse than where i started. :-) sometimes it's good to recognize that how we capture things is how we see them.
thanks for sharing!

Anne the tree is lovely, but I really love the flower painting... I love working on paper so I can't repaint.... stops me from being overly precious and makes me take chances and not over think it... mind you my repaint efforts ever turn out that well unlike your tree which is lovely...xx

Beautiful tree, love the bright colours and especially the sky. I often overpaint my pictures if I'm not happy with them, I love that about acrylis, and they always get better, with every layer.
