I had looked at this mirror every Saturday for three weeks. On the fourth Saturday, I bought it. I so wanted it for my bathroom. Problem? It really didn't fit my cottage-style house, but it was such a great deal!!! Have you ever been there? Buying something because it's a great deal but it doesn't really work in your home? Sigh. Thank God for chalk paint :)
Here's the original mirror in all its glittery, shiny newness:
I love the texture and the pattern of the frame. In the right space, it would be lovely as it is. In my house, it is decidedly the wrong look. So I chalk painted it with a home made white chalk paint. And then I painted it a second time with an ivory tinted chalk paint. And then I painted it AGAIN with a pearl finish bone white paint (not chalk based). Then I took my sanding sponge and I sanded it.
Oh a coat of white paint is a wonderful thing!! I ADORE this mirror now. The shiny metal finish is dulled thanks to the sanding, so it looks like zinc instead. The layers of the different shades of white paint give additional depth to the look. Love, love, love - now I want to go paint my shiny stainless steel fridge to look like this... OK well, maybe not just yet, I need to get up more courage before I go there. :)

Have a fabulous day!
