"Paint Spatters, Stripes & Swirls Oh My" Laundry Storage Solutions Part II

What's a makeover without some artwork to hang?  After seeing all the gorgeous water colour painted things out there in bloggy land, I decided I wanted to use that technique to create a sign for my newly organized laundry room.  Of course I had no watercolours on hand when I wanted to do this project, so I modified the drippy watercolour finish for something I could do with acrylic paints.

I found some MDF letters at the dollar store, picked out some bright and fresh paint colours from my acrylic paint collection (any paint will work) and painted each letter from the word "laundry" in either grain stripes, paint spatters, swirly stuff and it all came together in such a pretty way.  I hot glued the letters together and hung it on the wall using 3M Command Strips.

So cute.

I also got rid of the huge bar table I had built for the mudroom and replaced it with my home-built outdoor potting bench because it fits the space better.  I found some printables of vintage seed catalogues and dolled up the side of my dryer while I was at it.  I hung the Artist's Studio sign that I made last spring on the dryer too, using suction cup hooks on the top of the dryer so I didn't have to see them.  Everything is a little crooked, but that's the way I fly.  :)

I love that the stacked washer and dryer hide the hanging clothes from view.  The salvaged doors that I hung on the tower hide the laundry soap and other "uglies".  My potting bench gives me an extra shelf for storage too!

So cute.  So perfect.

I'm so modest...

I love this look, it feels like I'm in the garden.   Now my mudroom and laundry room feel happy again.

Oh and lest we forget, this is what I started with:
BEFORE
AFTER

To see my other post on how I created this space from nothing but washer & dryer connections and a crappy old MDF pantry cabinet, click HERE.  So glad this makeover is over!!

I'm off to do my laundry - cheers!

Have a great week!

  2. It is perfect! It is so charming. I love the color, how neat it is, and how the machines stack.

I have two machines around ten years old. I hope they hold out for a little while longer at least while I get through the next stage of renovation around here, but my plan eventually involves a set that stacks.

  3. Anne, it looks awesome! Cuteness factor: check. :) Don't you love 3M Command Strips? I couldn't live without them. Did you make that bench under the window? I LOVE it! Great job in there. It feels very springy and happy. Just the kind of place you'd want to hang out in while doing laundry.

  4. Ok, is this where you paint too? I see your brushes over there on the table. Hmm? I'm really impressed with the W/D now one on top of the other. I was picturing you jumping up and down throwing your clothes in the top one...and that, of course made me laugh! You're probably like 5'5" or something, right? Can any W/D be set that way?

I ADORE how clever you are with those letters! I want to do them in my boys' rooms now with their names!! The florals all over the place make me happy!!!! I'm so used to seeing everything WHITE since spring hit here in the blog land (because we ALL know it didn't HIT anywhere in real earth!!) that seeing FLOWERS AND COLORS makes my heart sing! "I went to a garden party..."

I LOVE THE WINDOW TOO! We have one in our laundry room! It's a nice spot to stand and fold clothes!

  16. The sign turned out really cute and I love your laundry room! Of course, I'm jealous of anyone who has an actual finished space for their washer and dryer since mine are in a corner of our completely unfinished and packed-to-the-rafters basement!

Seriously though, great use of space and I think it's super nice and sunny!
