5 Ways to Add Cottage Charm to Your Home

My style has changed several times since I first moved into my current home.  Last year I discovered the style that speaks to me and works best with my 1930s bungalow.  Here are 5 ways I've used to add cottage charm to my home.

1.   Painted furniture

Vintage furniture in the kitchen creates a charming, cottage vibe

2.  Bead board, bead board, and more bead board!

3.  Shutters

4.  Old doors and vintage pieces
Old door as a garden gate
Pie Safe

Baker's rack

Vintage looking linen cupboard

Old shutter repurposed as jewelry rack

Gorgeous antique door as artwork

5.  Baskets, buttons and bows  (ie lighting & accessories)

Vintage china & glassware, oil lamp, anniversary clock

Straw hats, quilts as curtains and table cloths

Chicken wire, burlap, vintage boxes & baskets

old crates, colourful umbrellas, straw hat, crocks and anything galvanized

old signs

patterned dishes, galvanized plant pot

chandeliers

old trays and glass jars

vintage door plates

And one last tip - a cat or two REALLY adds to the charm :)

To see the details behind any of these tips, check out my project board HERE

Happy creating!

  6. Your home has so much personality and it's refreshing to see colour since so many blogs and magazines show a lot of white on white or neutrals. The fact that you did the work yourself is impressive.

    Have a great weekend!

  16. Said it before, saying it again - I could just move right in and not have to change a thing. Feel as if I have just flipped through a favorite country cottage magazine. Every square foot oozes charm. A canvas coup - from blank to beautiful. Charm, style, utility created with your own hands executing your own vision. It must warm your heart every moment. Well done!!!!

  23. Just love everything you've done Anne - but those shutters ( I seem to remember them being in a bathroom - do you have a stainless steel sink in there - or is it your laundry room - or combo? ) I want those shutters !!!
