How to Create a Spa Bathroom

A spa bathroom is a space that makes you feel good the moment you step in. It's an environment where you can shrug off the cares of the world, relax completely and rejuvenate yourself.

Best of all, you don't have to spend a small fortune to create that space.

Here's how to do it.

Plush and Fluffy

Thick, plush towels and fluffy bathmats go a long way to achieving a spa feeling.  A few inexpensive luxury items such as expensive soaps, a bath tray and bath brushes will add to the ambiance.

Think Light and Bright

Keep the colors neutral - white, tan, grey or a combination of those shades - to create a relaxing mood. The lighter and more neutral the colors in your bathroom, the more spa-like it will feel.  Bright colors energize while neutrals create a calming environment.  Paint the walls if you can.  If you don't love the flooring, get a seagrass or sisal throw rug to cover it up.

Lighting

If you have bright lighting in your bathroom, consider installing a dimmer switch so you can control how much light you need at different times of the day.  Add lightly scented candles for those times when you want a relaxing soak in the tub.

Choose candles made with soy, beeswax, vegetable or coconut wax and natural and essential oils and avoid artificially scented candles that can cause allergies to flare up.

Swap Out the Shower Head

A massage shower head is a surprisingly inexpensive and easy way to add a luxurious touch to early morning showers.  Swap out that shower head in less than 5 minutes and enjoy a blissful massage when you start your day!

Pull the Look Together

Textures make all the difference when decorating with neutrals - think wicker baskets, plants in earthenware pots, artwork and chunky shelves on metal brackets.

A new shower curtain can make a huge difference in the look of a space.  If the shower curtain you love is priced out of your range check out the tablecloth section and use drapery hooks with clips to hang it.  Think outside the box when you can't find what you want for a price you can afford.

And the biggest luxury of all - set aside time for yourself every day to soak up the inviting spa environment you've created.

Enjoy!
