Quick Update

I had just enough paint left over from the guest bedroom to update the upper walls in the master bedroom. Covering even that light shade of beige took 3 coats to get a consistent coverage.  So between getting that job done so quickly and the fact that I never did share a good photograph of the new dining room opening, here are the latest  before and afters!

Even just that subtle a change made a huge difference in my opinion.  And lest we forget, here's a throwback to the wall colour that the previous owners had chosen (I shudder every time I see this wall colour - thank God I had white bedding and curtains!)

BEFORE BEFORE

I realized that I hadn't really posted a good photograph of the new dining room opening so here it is from almost the same angle as the before shot:

Just ignore the ugly flooring that I didn't get around to refinishing yet.  Maybe next year...  Did you notice anything missing from the latest photo?  I removed the turquoise door.  It's now in my shed waiting for me to come up with something new to do with it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Looks so much bigger to me. You're always doing something can't wait to see the "new" door.

    1. Thanks Di! It looks much bigger with both the wider dining room opening and the door to the front porch removed. It feels much bigger, too. Have a great weekend!

  3. Really lovely changes and end results.
I wonder if a soft sheer pulled to the side or beads would work in your entry doorway.
In the winter a heavier drape might catch drafts.
Would your pets allow such adornments?
It’s kinda of European and/or Indian to drape openings but I'm enjoying one in my home.

    1. I may have to consider a drape if winter temps drop below a certain level but I'm pretty happy with it exactly as it is. Thanks Frances!

  5. It is amazing the difference that opening up that wall made!

No offense to the people who had the house before you, but that orange shade was a little much for a bedroom.

  6. LOVE those changes, Anne - you always make such wonderful and sound smart decisions on your changes. I would LOVE to open up our tiny little opening from dining to kitchen, but there is an hvac thing there. I have been told by two contractors that it can technically be moved, but omg it would have to cost an arm and a leg. So I live with it and hate they make it like that. Oh how I would adore opening that up more!!!!!

Good job - sorry I have been so MIA - just haven't been on pc much since Easter, but I DID post adorable pics of my ever-growing adorable two-year-old grand daughter the other day. She's the apple of her grandmother's eye, I tell ya!

    Hugs. ♥

  9. Wow, the lighter paint color makes the room look bigger and makes the blue bedspread pop. So pretty. And I bet you could advertise "Need help taking down a wall?" and make lots of money. The new opening looks great. Im sure you love it.

  10. I see the previous owners of your home and of my own cottage liked the same colours! My living-room, dining-room, kitchen and bathroom used to be the same colour your bedroom used to be. I definitely like the off-white better!
