Hi there and welcome to my blog!  My name is Anne and I'm always dreaming about design.  I've been rearranging furniture ever since I was 10 years old.  I have a HUGE collection of home & garden magazines and I've kept every Ikea catalogue that was ever issued (well, maybe not EVERY one of them...)  One of my favourite things to do is take a house plan magazine and re-draw all the layouts to suit me, kind of like my own brain-teaser game ;)

This is a blog about my journey to renovate, redecorate and landscape a 1930s fixer-upper home.  I bought the house in 2010 after a divorce.  I  knew it was a bit rough and figured it would need some cosmetic updates and maybe a new window or two.  My eyes were opened quickly after living there for a short time to the fact that there was much more work needed...

Not having a lot of cash to throw at the place (mine was not one of those divorces!), I got a Home Depot credit card offering 10% off my first purchase and 6 months to pay and bought myself   a starter set of power tools. I taught myself  how to use them through trial and error and YouTube videos as I worked my way from project to project. I learned  to scrounge for materials, picking up roadside items, dumpster diving, yard sale'ing, horse-trading and even swapping all sorts of materials - including apples from my apple tree - to get the look I wanted.  It was a challenge to see how much I could do with my small budget. It's been a lot of work, an enormous learning curve and a lot of fun, too.  The satisfaction of having done it all myself and on a small budget is HUGE.  I hope my experiences can give you the confidence to leap in and do things you never thought you could (and do them well).

I set one goal for myself when I moved into this house and started my life over again and that was to learn or do something new at least once every month.  I learned to drive a stick shift.  I started up new hobbies.  I taught myself to paint pictures. I'm learning to build my own furniture, how to frame and trim, how to use a DSLR camera and how to use the power tools that I'm accumulating - and those are just the big things.  When you stop learning, you grow old fast and I refuse to grow old!!

My motto is "Forget all the reasons why it won't work and believe in the one reason why it will."

Thanks so much for stopping by!
